Chelon Carr-Newbold | Partner

Chelon is a Partner in the Real Estate Group and Shipping Group in the Nassau office. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario in 1991. She obtained valuable work experience in the business sector from 1991 to 1993 and then went on to study law at the University of Leeds in Leeds, England where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (with Honours) in 1995. Chelon was admitted to the Bar in England and Wales and The Bahamas in 1996. She joined the firm in 1996.

Chelon has considerable experience in residential and commercial property acquisition and financing, residential and commercial leases, subdivisions and condominiums.  Her experience extends generally to corporate and commercial matters and estates.  Her shipping experience includes advising on all aspects of ship financing and registration of ship mortgages.

Chelon is routinely involved in multi-jurisdictional real estate, commercial and shipping transactions and is accustomed to working with real estate developers, foreign counsel, financial institutions, corporate and private clients based throughout the world.

Chelon's recent work has included the following:

  • Advising a developer on all aspects of a 60 lot subdivision development in New Providence Advising a developer on all aspects of a gated 108 unit condominium development in New Providence
  • Advising a leading hotel and resort operator in New Providence on all aspects of its commercial leases
  • Advising a registered ship owner of a large fleet of vessels on all aspects of its ship financing and corporate affairs
  • Advising generally on corporate matters, share acquisitions, shareholder agreements and restructuring
  • Advising non-Bahamian investors on regulatory requirements for direct foreign investment in The Bahamas
  • Advising generally on all aspects of estate planning, preparation of wills, probate, letters of administration and resealing of foreign grants
  • Advising generally on work permits, annual residency and permanent residency
