Christopher Jenkins | Partner

Christopher is a Partner in the Nassau office, and a member of the Litigation, and Insolvency and Restructuring Groups.

Christopher's work covers the full spectrum of commercial practice, with an emphasis on insolvency advice and representation (both local and cross-border), mortgagee remedies, fraud, admiralty and shareholder disputes. Christopher regularly appears at Supreme Court and Court of Appeal level and is accustomed to working alongside UK and US based legal, insolvency and accounting teams in cross-border matters.

Christopher trained and practiced as a construction litigator for a top 15 London firm before relocating to the Bahamas, where he maintains his specialty in construction litigation. Christopher was called to the Bahamas Bar in 2005 and was made a Partner in 2011.

Christopher read Law and History at University College London in the UK, graduating in 2000, before undertaking the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School, London in 2001.

Insolvency and Restructuring

In the matter of British American Insurance Company (ongoing). Advising and appearing for the Judicial Manager of a major regional Insurance Company.

In the matter of Saad Investments Company Limited (ongoing). Advising and appearing for Joint Official Liquidators appointed in the Cayman Islands of a significant international investments company.

Re Hampton Insurance Company Limited (ongoing). Advising and appearing for joint liquidators of a BVI incorporated Insurance Company involved in litigation in the Bahamas.

Re Company A, B and C (ongoing). Acting and advising an overseas financier seeking to enforce security held on a resort development in the Bahamas.

 

Trust Litigation

A v B, C, D and E. Acting and appearing for a beneficiary claimant claiming in excess of $100 million in a complex multi-jurisdictional Trust litigation.

Corporate and Commercial Litigation

A et al v B et al (ongoing). Acting and appearing as primary counsel for a financial services group in a complex $20 million international commercial fraud claim against a former director.

A v B and C. Advising the Arbitrator appointed to determine in a $60 million shareholder valuation dispute.

RHS Ventures (GP) CA, Ltd et al v Plainfield Asset Management LLC et al. Acting and appearing for a Hedge Fund and others in a Partnership dispute over control of a resort development in which the Hedge Fund had invested over $100 million, involving injunctions, declaratory relief and related issues of access to partnership books and records.

Regattas Phase I, 2, 3 and 4 v Harbour View Condominium Limited et al. Acting as primary counsel for a group of Condominium Associations in a dispute with a developer in a mixed use resort.

Re X (a minor). Advising and acting on behalf of an individual seeking to enforce his rights against under new Data Protection legislation.

 

Admiralty

The Cabo Pilar. Advising UK solicitors representing ship owners in relation to the enforceability of an exclusion clause seeking to exclude liability resulting from negligent port services

The Maersk Barcelona. Acting and appearing as primary counsel for the managers of the Maersk Barcelona (via UK shipping solicitors) in relation to Bahamian proceedings under art 228 of UNCLOS for alleged oil pollution from the Maersk Barcelona.

Bank of Ireland v MV Athensgas and MV Ingegas. Acting and appearing for a major European financial institution, acting through UK solicitors seeking to enforce security held in sister ships.
