Kharin Sears | Associate

Kharin Sears is an Associate and a member of the firm’s Litigation and Insolvency and Restructuring Groups.

Kharin obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology and Sociology from S.t Mary's College of Maryland, Maryland, United States of America in 2006.  She earned her LL.B with Upper Second Class Honors in 2010 from the University of The West Indies (Bahamas), following which she completed her Bar School training at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in Nassau, Bahamas. Kharin was called to the Bar of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in October 2012 and joined Lennox Paton in November 2012.

Kharin's practice covers a range of commercial and civil litigation including insolvency and restructuring, personal injury negligence claims, and contractual disputes. She has appeared as junior counsel in both the Supreme Court as well as the Court of Appeal of The Bahamas.

  • Appearing as junior counsel on behalf of the Judicial Manager in the restructuring of a major regional Insurance Company.
  • Appearing as junior counsel on behalf of Joint Official Liquidators in the voluntary liquidation of a Bahamian Company, which involved obtaining a supervision Order from the Supreme Court.
  • Acting on behalf of a U.S company for the recovery of funds owed under contracts for the sale of goods entered into with a local company.
  • Acting on behalf of a major commercial bank for the recovery of mortgage funds disbursed on the reliance of fraudulent title reports.
  • Appearing as junior counsel in a case involving breach of a cost-plus building contract for the recovery of funds for defective work carried out during renovations of a million dollar property.
  • Acting on behalf of a beneficiary under a Bahamian trust fund concerning the distribution of assets in the fund.
  • Appearing as junior counsel in personal injury /fatal accidents matters involving claims for breach of the Health & Safety at Work legislation.
  • Assisting in providing advice and assessments of quantum of damages in personal injury negligence claims.
