Marco Turnquest | Partner

Marco is a Partner in firm’s Litigation and Insolvency and Restructuring Groups. Marco although being a general all around litigator he is regularly involved in complex commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on shareholder and insolvency disputes.

Marco studied Law and Politics at the University of Keele in Staffordshire, England, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 1999. He then successfully completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law in London, England, following which he was called to Bar of England and  Wales as a member of the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in June, 2000, and to the Bahamian Bar  in October, 2000.

Marco joined Lennox Paton as an Associate in 2000 and was made a Partner in 2006.

Over the years Marco has been involved in a number of large commercial cases, with an international element, which have been litigated in The Bahamas. He regularly appears as lead counsel or junior counsel in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of The Bahamas.

Among the matters on which Marco has recently worked are:

  • Acting for BVI liquidators in a complex tracing claim to recover $40 million dollars from a Bahamian company.
  • Acting for a minority shareholder in bringing winding up proceedings against three Bahamian companies which hold extensive interest in a number of Dominican Republic companies.
  • Acting for a minority shareholder of a Bahamian Company with extensive Brazilian holdings in bringing proceedings to have his shares brought out by the majority shareholders.
  • Acting for a minority shareholder in bringing winding up proceedings against a Bahamian company with extensive European property holdings. This case was settled.
  • Acting from the majority shareholders of a Bahamian company with extensive telephone interest in the Caribbean in resisting a winding up petition brought by minority shareholders.
  • Defending the former receiver of 30 Bahamian companies against claims of misconduct.
  • Acting for a creditor in a complex tracing claim to recover $10 million.
  • Acting for a large international company in a breach of contract claim to recover approximately one million dollars from a Bahamian Company.
  • Acting for a foreign regulatory body in breach of contract claim to recover approximately one million dollars from the Bahamas Government.
  • Acting for the owners of a large family island land holding in a long running complex real estate dispute.
  • Acting for one of the partners in a real estate dispute involving a large track of land in one of the family islands.
  • Acting for a Bahamian Company in securing an anti-suit injunction against two of its former employees.
  • Acting for Bahamian trustees in relation to a proprietary tracing claim by Canadian liquidators.
